Fervor with which “science” (okay, ‪#‎science‬) is sold as “the only objective reality” while being treated as a belief system (and, on a side note, used, like any other belief system, for self-identificaltion and bonding with people who share it), reminds me of early Christians (or, to be more precise, the image of early Christians in my mind

Because, without that belief system tag, science is simply a set of knowledge about reality that matches physical experiences and is considered “true” unless proven otherwise. LEMME WRITE THAT DICTIONARY, PEOPLE!

On the other hand, when I hear somebody say, “I am into science, and therefore, God does not exist”, two things come to my mind.

One, I think of my first grade, and that day when a chemistry teacher came to my class, created flame in a glass with liquid, and claimed that it was sufficient proof of the fact that God did not exist.

And two–and now I am being serious– while I am not remotely interested in debating the topic because beliefs are a deeply personal matter and frankly, other people’s beliefs are none of my business–when I hear that particular logic, I wonder if, following the scientific method, the person has travelled to every space and time dimension of the universe (all of them!!!) and checked for himself. Because, if that has not been done, those claims are as good as claims that the world is ruled by magical macaroni.

It is honest and scientific to say, “religious belief systems that I am familiar with, don’t make sense to me. Based on my current experiences, the world is like this”. It is not scientific to say, “Science as I see it is happy progress, and what I don’t understand, does not exist because it is too taxing on my brain to deal with it”.

P.S. There is a reason I don’t have a pontificating career. I am happy to express my feelings on the topic because, well, I was sitting here and thought, well, why not talk about theology on Facebook, ladies and gentlemen… But seriously. This is what I think about, but I don’t have any desire to debate it per se. WYSIWYG.
